Notes
for Mary Anne Kelso
Her
marriage record comes from LICKING COUNTY, OHIO MARRIAGES 1808-1875, published
1984 by the Licking County Genealogical Society, p. 1. The marriage ceremony was performed by John
Crow, Justice of the Peace. John Crow
was married to Margaret Abrahams who may be a sister to John Abrams. That relationship has not been proved.
This
family lived in Monroe Township, Licking County, Ohio, until about 1845 when
they moved to Jefferson County, Iowa.
Mary Ann and John Abrams later moved to Clarke County, Iowa.
In
1870 she is living in Clarke County, Iowa, in the home of her daughter, Sarah,
and son-in-law, Asa Carson. The 1850
census gives Ohio as place of birth; in 1870 the place of birth is given as
Virginia. Based on the birthplaces of her siblings, Virginia is probably
correct.
Her

Notes
for Sarah Jane Kelso
She
is believed to be the first of the Kelso children born in Ohio. Tombstone information from Winterset
Cemetery, Madison County, Iowa indicates Sarah Abrahams died July 11, 1884 aged
88 yrs, 1 mo. and 16 days (If this is correct, her birth date should have been
1796, not 1806 as is shown in these records).
The Kelso family bible gives her
birth date as 25 March 1806.
Both
Sarah and her husband were illiterate and signed their names with an
"X". This may account for
some of the confusion around their dates of birth.
Her
marriage record comes from LICKING COUNTY OHIO MARRIAGES 1808-1875, p. 2,
published 1984 by the Licking County Genealogical Society.
Her
son, James, reports that he was the ninth of eleven children. If there was another child in this family,
he/she was likely born after 1850 and died before 1860 since only ten children
appear in census records.
Children of Stephen ABRAHAMS and Sarah
Jane KELSO were as follows:
31 i Alexander3 ABRAHAMS, born 1824 in Licking Co., OH. He married (1) on 3 Apr 1848 in Miami Co.,
